Artist Biography:

Brancher is the nom de plume of songwriter/guitarist Julian Joeu. Brancher's music combines shoegaze with elements of alternative rock, post-rock, and experimental music, creating a sonic landscape that ranges from ethereal to distorted. Their music is framed by a search for creation and self-expression, through the lens of their shoegaze-inspired soundscapes that are at times, darkly romantic, and other times, driving and energetic. Joeu discovered their love for music early in childhood, starting as a classical pianist before picking up the electric guitar in their teenage years. Their art soon became a haven for them, one that was filled with everything from hazy, distorted fuzz to moody, lilting atmospheres. Much of Joeu's writing process is improvisational, almost as if their art is driven by an outpouring of thoughts, ideas, emotions, and experiences. There is a sort of freedom that is found in their music—in their driving guitar solos, distorted and reverb-drenched guitar chords, faraway vocals, and dreamy synthesizers. The work of Brancher is enveloping yet distant, pensive yet present, questioning what it means to be someone who is all too aware of themselves and their imagination. 

traffic is the instrumental side project of Brancher, combining influences in experimental, ambient, alternative, and jazz music.
